Agenda:

Hunter-gatherers and software developmentby Hass Chapman, VP of Engineering at Drover

From 200.000 years ago until the Neolithic revolution 12.000 years ago humans had a different concept of work. How can we use our knowledge of hunter gatherer culture, behavioural science, and modern neuroscience to form a modern workplace which best matches our species disposition?

About Hass Chapman: Hass is an experienced coach and technical leader with over 20 years in the software industry. He is an avid student of human behaviour and is on a mission to change the way we organise workplaces.

Building an AI company from Scratch by João Graça, CTO at Unbabel

In this talk I will cover my experience of building an AI startup from founders to 200 people at Unbabel. I will cover the challenges of adding AI to a product with a limited team and how to grow this team. How and why to invest in research vs use existing tools. How to pick between simple solutions (rule base) to more complex solutions (Deep Learning). How to leverage academia to help you on the journey. How to get international recognition as a Ai company still with a limited budget.

About João Graça: João is a co-founder and the CTO of Unbabel. He did his PhD in Natural Language Processing and was a Post-Doctoral Researcher at the University of Pennsylvania. João was also awarded a Marie Curie, Welcome II program (2011) Scholarship, which he ended up declining to pursue entrepreneurship. He is also one of the co-founders of the Lisbon Machine Learning Summer School (LxMLS).
