Talk

Title: You can have fun doing Kaggle competitions. Let’s start.

Abstract: Introduction to the platform, how to get started in competitions and some highlights on things that help maximize the fun and success on Kaggle.

Workshop

Abstract: It will be a mini-workshop where we will work on the Kaggle House Prices dataset with the goal of doing some data analysis, a bit of data cleaning, prediction models and submit results to Kaggle. People new to Kaggle will work with others that already have some experience and this way overcome some of the typical difficulties of a first Kaggle competition.

Short bio: Pedro Lima (https://www.kaggle.com/pvlima) is PhD from University of Coimbra and is managing partner at Cognitiva where he works on machine learning, planning and optimization projects. He also enjoys participating in AI competitions and he is a Kaggle Master.

What you need:

1) Your own laptop;

2) Sign-up to Kaggle (https://www.kaggle.com/account/login), we will be working on Kaggle kernels;

Optional) If you wish to work locally you can download the Kaggle kernel as a jupyter-notebook. To manage the local environment we suggest anaconda (https://conda.io/docs/user-guide/install/index.html).

Note 1: If you have a power strip (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Power_strip) and could bring to share with others, we'll appreciate a lot.
